It took a teammate with 2,500 yards rushing to overshadow the play of the best defensive player in the section. Alonso, who played inside linebacker and strong safety, hit hard and often. He averaged 12.5 tackles per game, with 150 altogether and 81 solo. The Oregon recruit also was the team's No. 2 offensive weapon, as a pass-catching tight end.
