Mercury News Comments:
2009
The co-MVP of the De Anza Division racked up 2,378 yards and 28 touchdowns. He rushed for 338 yards in a game twice - once in an opening-round playoff win over Leland when he scored five touchdowns. In two seasons, Herrera rushed for 4,431 yards and scored 51 touchdowns. The soft-spoken senior is fundamentally sound with the ability to run between tackles and break to the outside. A clutch performer, he rushed for 651 yards and nine scores in three playoff games.

2008
A year after competing at the Pop Warner level, Herrera became the Chargers' workhorse, rushing for 2,053 yards and 23 scores. He was a tough inside runner who had the ability to bounce to the outside for a big gain. The junior was a key factor in the Chargers' run to the Large School final, gaining 512 yards and scoring five times in the playoffs.
