Manion was a dynamic force on a Monarchs defense that averaged fewer than 12 points allowed per game. Manion wreaked havoc in opposing backfields with his uncanny ability to put heavy pressure on quarterbacks. But he wasn't a one-dimensional pass rusher; he also had the athleticism to excel against the run. He racked up 21 sacks and recorded 85 tackles while forcing four fumbles and earning Mercury News defensive player of the year honors.
