Often overlooked and under-recruited, Bono led the Vikings to an undefeated season, Central Coast Section Open Division title and state championship. In the process, the Mercury News player of the year threw for 2690 yards and 30 touchdowns and completed 66 percent of his passes. Among those scoring strikes was a last-second, 21-yard touchdown pass that downed Archbishop Mitty in the CCS first round, and six touchdown passes in Palo Alto's final three playoff wins.
